Analysing television adverts- conventions
Use of camera.
Extreme closeup- a small section of an object/ person
Close up- neck and face
Long shot- whole body and background so you get a sense of the setting
Wide shot- get a lot of the background
Medium shot- waist up, can see more of the character and the background
Point of view- the camera is in place of the person, can see from their POV
Low angle- puts the character in a position of power and makes the viewer feel inferior
High angle- makes the character seem vulnerable and puts the viewer in a position of power
Over the shoulder-filmed over the shoulder of the character
Speed of shots
What is the effect of having a few slow moving shots and changing to lots of fast moving shots?
The beginning will build suspense for the viewer and slowly begin to reveal the message and when it speeds up the message will be reinforced and this is likely to install fear, excitement and a sense of thrill in the viewer.
Voice overs reinforce the brand

Analysis- Diesel Only the brave wild fragrance advert
Establishing shot: establishes the setting of where the ad is going to take place
The font used looks masculine and bold
Heard drums and a voice over- the drums convey a tribal theme and reinforce the masculine connotation, this relates to the brand which is masculine. Warrior theme.
The character looks like Tarzan, long hair, unclear ethnicity, installs a tough, strong, masculine theme.
However, he is wearing clothes. Although he seems wild and free, he is from more of an urban setting. Interestingly, this reinforces the idea that viewers could use the product too.
Running- strong and powerful
Running from a jungle setting to a city (concrete jungle) which is a juxtaposition and perhaps suggests that both settings are competitive and he was running in an urban jungle, he was brave and independent.
High angle, used to show us the path he is taking now.
An image of a fist, the bottle of the perfume is shaped like a fist so it promotes the brands products.
Not wearing shoes, hairy and slightly masculine/ jungle face whilst wearing normal clothes to show its masculine and powerful.
New characters appears- the competition
White doves appear- purity and peace symbols
A women appears- the love interest, wearing white to show purity but has messy and wild hair to show her more powerful side.
The main man runs and stops at the top of the scene, stands over the 'jungle' to enforce the idea of king of the jungle and that he has conquered his territory.
"Take over tomorrow"- take control of your future
